The European Union Commissioner for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced that the European bloc does not currently have any plans to abandon Russian gas.
Borrell said in a radio interview today, “If it is possible to replace Russian oil, it is different for Russian gas,” adding that “the oil market is global and there are other suppliers. Gas is a different issue. It is not only an energy source, as it cannot be replaced by any other petrochemical product.”
"The shutdown of the Russian gas valve has not been discussed at the moment," Borrell added.
The statement came at a time when the European Union is discussing the imposition of the sixth package of sanctions on Russia, which may include a ban on the import of Russian oil, amid division over this among European countries.
