Feijóo maintains his support for the mayor of Ourense despite the fact that he sees the aggression against a trade unionist as "unacceptable"

The national president of the PP promoted Jácome to the mayor's office in 2019 despite the fact that the PSOE was the most voted force

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, abandons the presidency of Galicia keeping intact the support for the independent Gonzalo Pérez Jácome, the eccentric mayor of Ourense for the Democracia Ourensana party who at the time was called "lethal" for the city but that governs thanks to the support of its formation.

Despite the innumerable disputes that both forces have had since the last municipal elections, the date on which they took over local power, Jácome (the third party with the most votes, after the PP and the PSOE, which won those elections) has always achieved the Feijóo's endorsement.

In the case of the City Council of Ourense, the national president of the PP has chosen not to fulfill his historical maxim that the most voted list should always govern.

The most recent support for Jácome was offered by Feijóo this Thursday, in his last press conference after the Council of the Xunta, which he already chaired in office.

Asked by journalists up to four times about the reasons why the PP keeps Jácome in the mayor's office after having attacked a trade unionist this week when she brought him a megaphone to speak before the striking urban bus workers, the The national leader of the PP limited himself to making the alderman's conduct ugly, calling it "unacceptable" and "unjustifiable."

Even urging the mayor to apologize, Feijóo avoided explaining the reasons for his support, appealing to the fact that the mayor is not a PP militant.

"It is up to his party to answer what he is going to do with him," he said, despite the fact that Jácome governs thanks to his support.

The PP leader distanced himself from the political situation in the city, accusing the PSOE of having been the one who handed over the mayor's office to Jácome.

He argued that for the Socialists "the ideal mayor was Mr. Jácome as long as the Diputación was governed by the PSOE" and detailed that this was the attempt of the number one on the list and provincial leader of this party, Rafael Rodríguez Villarino.

"[Villarino] wanted to put Jácome in the City Council and be the president of the Provincial Council," he insisted, blaming the Socialists for preventing the most voted list, that of the PSOE itself, from ruling in the city.

In those municipal elections of 2019, the popular José Manuel Baltar lost for the first time the absolute majority in the Diputación, a body that he inherited from his father after presiding over it for 25 years.

Baltar maintained power in the institution thanks to the support of Jácome's party and the PP promoted Jácome to the mayor's office despite the fact that his party was the third force.

In May of last year, when nonsense governed municipal life with the city governed by three councilors and a battalion of advisers hired by the mayor, PSOE, BNG and Ciudadanos explored possible agreements and a motion of censure against Jácome came to be on the table .

However, the support of the PP was necessary, which never came.

Baltar and Feijóo offered their support for the motion against Jácome on the condition that the winner of the elections, the socialist Villarino, withdraw.

He accepted the order and Feijóo again validated Baltar's proposal that made his offer more expensive: the PP would only sign the motion if the socialist renounced his acts as provincial councilor and deputy and went to his house.

He didn't do it and Jácome was left at ease.

This Thursday the national president of the PP challenged the PSOE to negotiate with the PP "if he has changed his mind" and Villarino renounces "that double objective and that double political ambition."
