Russia's representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, confirmed that the West was waiting for the opportunity to wage an economic war on Moscow and put pressure on it, pointing out that what Ukraine is witnessing is a proxy war being waged by the West against Russia.
And the Russian Tass news agency quoted Nebenzia as saying today, “It seems as if you were waiting for this moment to start turning the wheel of repression against Russia. It leaves no doubt that you were preparing for this before long ago.”
"In addition to the innumerable number of sanctions, embargoes and confiscation of private property of Russian citizens who have nothing to do with the military operation, Western countries have frozen $300 billion in Russian assets... about what international law are you talking about then," Nebenzia added.
And the French presidency of the European Commission announced earlier today that the envoys of the European Union member states will discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia on May 6.
