All the results, graphics and interactive maps for the election in Schleswig-Holstein: We will be preparing all the data for you from May 8th.

Schleswig-Holstein elects its new state parliament on May 8th.

The polling stations will open their doors on Sunday in the state's 35 constituencies.

This election will show how the population evaluates the work of the black-green-yellow government over the past five years.

In addition to the other state elections in 2022, the election is also a barometer for federal politics.

We show the results of the elections in the constituencies and municipalities of Schleswig-Holstein on our interactive election maps in this article.

Which results you will find when with us

- You can find the results of the individual constituencies on our interactive election map from 6 p.m. as soon as they have been counted.

- Starting on Sunday, we will be preparing the results of the more than 1100 municipalities in another interactive map with a first and second vote.

- Share of votes and the distribution of seats in the state parliament - in advance based on the last survey, on the evening of the election based on the current status of the count.

Map of the state elections: results of the municipalities and constituencies

In the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein, more than 1100 towns and municipalities in 35 constituencies are voting.

From the evening of the election, new results are constantly being added to our voting card.

In the interactive map, you can select any constituency at any time and query all the results for the first and second vote.

Schleswig-Holstein, with its almost three million inhabitants, has seen many changes of government in recent years.

Since 2005, the northernmost state has been governed by four different coalitions.

After the last state election in 2017, the CDU, Greens and FDP finally came together to form a government.

This government was only the second so-called Jamaica coalition at the state level.

Such a coalition had previously existed in Saarland since 2009, but it broke up prematurely in 2012.

Schleswig-Holstein: A test for the Jamaica coalition

The 2022 state election is also a mood test for the first-time cooperation between the CDU, Greens and FDP in a government in Schleswig-Holstein. Prime Minister Daniel Günther again ran as the top candidate of the CDU, which was clearly ahead in the polls.

Thomas Losse-Müller took first place on the list for the SPD.

In addition to the CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP, the South Schleswig Voters' Association (SSW) is represented in the previous state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein with the strength of a parliamentary group.

The party was founded to represent the Danish minority in the country and is exempt from the five percent threshold.

The mandates of the SSW can sometimes be decisive for coalition building in Schleswig-Holstein.

After the 2012 state elections, a majority government was formed from the SPD, the Greens and the three members of the SSW.

Together, the three parties had exactly the 35 votes they needed in the state parliament.

There are also five non-attached members of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament who were elected in 2017 from the AfD list of candidates.

However, after Doris von Sayn-Wittgenstein was expelled from the party and Frank Brodehl left the party, the AfD lost its parliamentary group status, since a parliamentary group requires at least four members of a party.

Doris von Sayn-Wittgenstein sued against her expulsion from the party and is now a member of the AfD again.

For the parties in the state election, the state's energy, transport and agricultural policies were among the most important issues.

In addition to the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, the elections in Schleswig-Holstein are also of interest to the parties in Berlin.

In the weeks and months before the election, the traffic light government under Olaf Scholz was criticized for its handling of the war in Ukraine, among other things.

Here, too, you can choose between different surveys in the upper area.

The possible coalitions in Schleswig-Holstein

In addition to a continuation of the ruling Jamaican coalition, other coalition alliances for Schleswig-Holstein were also within the realm of possibility.

The diagram below shows which parties could together achieve a majority in the state parliament based on the most recent data.
