A protester was killed Thursday in Khartoum by Sudanese security forces during a rally against military rule, according to doctors.

The victim, who has not been identified, was

"crushed by an armored vehicle belonging to the forces (supporting) the (October 25 military coup) during a demonstration in Khartoum which was heading towards the presidential palace"

, said the Central Committee of Physicians of Sudan, an independent pro-democracy group.

The death brings to 95 the number of people killed in the repression of these demonstrations, which have been held regularly in the capital and other cities since the putsch of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane.

Thursday, the rally against power brought together several hundred people, who again called on the soldiers to

"return to their barracks".

The demonstrators denounce the stranglehold of the military on the politics and economy of Sudan, controlled almost continuously by the army in 66 years of independence.

The country, one of the poorest in the world, lost its international aid, ie 40% of its revenue, in retaliation for the putsch.

In addition, the Sudanese pound has collapsed and Sudan is being gripped by rising grain and oil prices due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
