Fake stories about the Russian war of aggression also fall on fertile ground in Germany.

That shows a survey.

Those who have not been vaccinated and supporters of the AfD in particular suspect conspiracies.

Munich – Conspiracy myths about the escalating Ukraine conflict are also widespread in Germany.

Around every fifth German citizen “rather” agrees with statements about the war.

This is reported by the

editorial network Germany

(RND), citing a survey by the Center for Monitoring, Analysis and Strategy (Cemas).

Ukraine War Conspiracies Poll: Belief in Putin's Fight Against "Global Elite"

A dozen statements were presented to the participants for evaluation.

Around 12 percent (completely) and 20 percent (rather) believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking action “against a global elite that pulls the strings in the background”.

In addition, 15 percent fully agree and 16 percent partially agree that the West is making a scapegoat of Putin in order to distract attention from their own problems.

Almost seven percent also think that Ukraine is running secret laboratories for the production of biological weapons together with the USA.

14 percent partially agree with this conspiracy narrative.

The survey provides an interesting insight into the spread of pro-Russian conspiracy myths in Germany.

A look at party preferences shows that supporters of the AfD in particular (60 percent) believe fake stories.

Left-wing voters follow at 26, with the FDP it is around 15 percent.

There are hardly any differences between the supporters of the CDU/CSU and the SPD (ten percent each).

Only four percent of Green Party voters believe in conspiracy stories – the lowest figure in the survey.

Survey on conspiracies: Corona deniers also believe in war myths

It is striking that there is a connection between corona myths and war conspiracy stories.

Among the unvaccinated and people who were willing to take to the streets against the Corona policy, approval was around 56 percent each.

"The results show once again for society what we have already been able to prove for the digital space: Where corona denial was previously the topic, the war of aggression against Ukraine is now being charged with conspiracy ideology," said Cemas Managing Director Pia Lamberty to the

editorial network Germany

.

For the study, Cemas had the market research institute Bilendi & respondi interview people between the ages of 18 and 92 from April 1 to 12, 2031 using a standardized online questionnaire.

It is considered representative of the German population.
