Germering – The rush was great, after all it felt like an eternity since the last maypole was put up.
Secured by a crane, the boys had to work hard to get the good piece, centimeter by centimeter, into its vertical position.

The weather held up until the end - so it was not surprising that the Germeringers spent the waiting time with beer, bratwurst and music from the brass band of the Unterpfaffenhofen volunteer fire brigade.
Such a maypole erection not only means living tradition, especially after the long Corona break, it was also an important get-together with friends, neighbors or old acquaintances for many.
A very special reason to get dirndls and lederhosen out of the closet.
The boys had already selected and prepared the tree in October – until it could be set up in all its glory on May 1st.
After felling, the tree must first be stripped of its bark and left to dry for a few months until it acquires its typical maypole appearance: the white color and the blue rhombuses and spirals.
Once the signs and the wreath are attached, the tree "only" has to be guarded against possible theft.
