The popular Nicaraguan broadcaster, Calixto Rojas, 53, drowned last Sunday when trying to cross the Rio Grande to reach the United States;

his agony was recorded on a video, which shows the presence of authorities on the riverbank who were unable or unwilling to do anything to save his life.

Journalist Bryan Llenas, from the Fox News news network, recorded the moment in which the Nicaraguan drowned in front of several people and shared the video on his Twitter social network account.

In the images you can see a friend of Rojas clinging to a pillar to avoid drowning.

“Help us, please help us!” his man yelled as he clung to the column.

"Don't give up!" he yelled at Rojas, who was struggling to get his head out of the water.

Seconds later, the video shows how the man sinks and does not come back up again.

did nothing to rescue him.

The journalist adds that the officers explained to him that they had received the order not to rescue people in the water since on April 22 the national guard, Bishop Evans, 22, drowned in that same point of the river, when he was precisely trying to rescue two migrants who were drowning.

Rojas, a well-known broadcaster from the department of León, arrived in Piedras Negras, Mexico on Saturday, according to the newspaper La Prensa.

The other migrant, Elbe Casto, 42, survived and was rescued by Mexican officials in a boat and taken to Mexico.
