This is how you can find out if your flight is delayed – even before it is announced

Flight delays can be quite annoying.
Here, a pilot reveals how to find out about delays before they are announced.
Unfortunately, flight delays are part of travelling, be it for business or private vacation flights.
If you have to catch a connecting flight, delays can make you really nervous.
And corresponding announcements at the airport gate are often a long time coming.
It is of no use to travelers to be at the airport on time.
However, according to pros, there are a few
indications that you should expect a flight delay.

Certain warning signs actually indicate that a departure is delayed.
"Obviously, the most obvious clue is to check the weather," airline pilot Patrick Smith of the
Ask the Pilot
blog told

Of course, if the weather at your departure airport is
bad
, there is a high probability that your flight will be delayed.
However,
some turnstiles are more vulnerable than others
.
"An inch of snow in Denver or Detroit isn't a big deal," Smith says, "but snow in Washington or Dallas can cause problems."
However, bad weather is not the only reason when a plane is delayed.
According to an analysis by the US Department of Transportation, most flight delays in 2021 were due to
previous delays
.
Maintenance or crew problems as well as heavy traffic also regularly cause delays in air traffic.
So if you know that the flight in front of you was already delayed, chances are your departure will be delayed too.
"Some airline websites and
apps
allow you to track the whereabouts of the plane you're going to take," the veteran pilot continues.
Third-party apps also show flight delays.
Flight Delay: When Can I Get Compensation?
Even if you can't do anything about the delay in your flight, it's at least good to know how the departure is going.

This is regulated by the European Air Passenger Rights Regulation.
