January 6, 2021 has become a defining date for the United States.

A mob stormed the US Capitol in Washington that day.

The processes – and above all the masterminds – of the attack on the US Capitol are still being examined.

A committee of inquiry now wants to clarify whether and to what extent ex-President Donald Trump was involved in the processes.

According to media reports, a son of the former US President has now asked questions from the investigative committee.

This is reported by the broadcasters CNN and ABC, citing unspecified sources.

Three hours of interrogation of Donald Trump Jr.

CNN reports that Donald Trump Jr. was questioned over a video link for more than three hours on Tuesday.

According to ABC information, the ex-president's son voluntarily answered the questions, i.e. without a criminal summons.

On January 6, 2021, supporters of the then Republican President Donald Trump stormed the seat of parliament in the capital Washington.

At the time, they wanted to prevent Democrat Joe Biden’s November 2020 election victory from being confirmed.

Five people were killed in the attack, including a police officer.

Trump had to face impeachment over the attack because he had previously incited his supporters in a speech.

At the end of the trial he was acquitted.

Donald Trump Jr. was backstage with his father and other confidants immediately before the speech in Washington, according to videos.

Other members of the Trump family have appeared before the committee before him.

Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner had been questioned in recent weeks.

Donald Trump Jr.'s partner, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has also presented herself to the panel.

The investigative body in the US House of Representatives is to clarify the background of the attack on the Capitol.

Public hearings of the committee are to take place for the first time in June.
