Ouagadougou-SANA
Eleven soldiers were killed and others wounded during two separate attacks by armed men in northern and central Burkina Faso.
Xinhua quoted an army statement today as saying that a patrol was ambushed near the town of Sole in the northern Lorum province, killing six of its members.
The statement indicated that five policemen were killed and nine others were injured in a second attack by terrorists in the central province of Sanmatanga.
The statement pointed out that 20 militants were killed during the two attacks, in addition to the confiscation of weapons, ammunition and means of communication that were in the possession of the militants.
The security situation in Burkina Faso has deteriorated since 2015, when more than a thousand people were killed and more than a million others were displaced as a result of attacks by armed men in various regions of the country.
