The trend is towards electric or hybrid cars.

But are there enough charging stations in Tegernsee Valley?

The E-Werk now explained the infrastructure and other plans to the city council.

Tegernsee

– The number of drivers switching to electric or plug-in hybrid drives is growing.

"30 percent of all new registrations are now e-cars and plug-in hybrids," reported Manfred Pfeiler, Managing Plant Manager of the E-Werk Tegernsee, when the city council was now discussing current information on the charging infrastructure in the Tegernsee Valley.

All E-Werk charging stations in public car parks

E-Werk Tegernsee Vertriebs- und Service-KG has been operating several charging stations on behalf of the valley communities since 2017.

These are all located in publicly accessible parking lots and are displayed in the well-known apps and websites.

They can be used for a fee and can be activated both via the so-called ad hoc payment and via various charging cards and charging apps.

"The topic is picking up speed," formulated Florian Appel, who, as sales manager, presented the current situation, pointed out the future path and answered a number of questions from the city councillors.

Number of charging stations has increased continuously since 2017

This is the development: In 2017, the first charging station started at the E-Werk depot.

The number rose from eight charging points (a charging station has two charging points, each with 22 kilowatts) with 120 charging processes, to twelve charging points with 1878 charging processes in 2020. In 2021 there were already 16 charging points with 5314 charging processes.

A big leap is being made this year: The current 18 charging points with 1727 charging processes are to be expanded to 32 charging points with 9600 charging processes.

The E-Werk predicts that the charging volume will increase to 150,000 kilowatts (kW).

Further charging stations are planned at the Kreuth hiking car park and in Gmund

This is to be achieved with the pillars erected on the Point, at the outdoor swimming pool and at the iodine sulfur bath in Bad Wiessee and at the Wandinger car park in Rottach-Egern.

Further points will be set up at the hikers' car park in Klamm-Winterstube as well as four charging points, distributed over two pillars at the fairground in Gmund.

In the future, the E-Werk is aiming to increase the number of charging points at existing locations with high demand, such as the Wandinger car park, and to open up additional public locations in the area - with new models.

Because the previously used charging stations would no longer be produced.

Appel also reported that the manufacturer and operator Innogy used by E-Werk was taken over by Compleo.

Fast charging stations at Tegernsee not so popular

Deputy Mayor Michael Bourjau (FWG) asked about the "profit model".

The E-Werk, according to Appel, gets a roaming fee of 35 cents per kilowatt hour.

This includes all costs.

Nevertheless, the charging stations are profitable.

Ursula Janssen (Greens) wanted to know whether fast and ultra-fast charging stations were also being considered.

Appel knew that they weren't in such high demand in the valley.

"The quality of the stay during the loading process is crucial." The company is following the topic, but fears that this offer would only attract more transit traffic.

Municipal traffic monitoring keeps an eye on the permitted charging time

The question of the permitted charging time was also of interest to the city councillors.

A hot topic given the high demand for parking spaces.

Since in most cases additional costs are incurred from the fourth hour ("blocking fee"), this issue would regulate itself for the users, according to Appel.

In addition, according to Bettina Koch, head of the building authority, the municipal traffic control would keep an eye on it.

“Parking at a charging station is limited to four hours,” Koch clarifies.

Appel also answered questions about the reservability of the columns (“availability can be seen on the apps”), about the capacity of the power grid or about the private charging stations in the valley.

"75 percent of e-car drivers charge at home," Appel knew, so the public offer is an addition.
