The new magic theater "Verschmittst" was presented in Weilheim's old town with a big hello on Thursday.

The representatives of the city and district agreed that the project and the rooms are "magical" - and they are happy about an "enrichment for the entire Oberland".

Weilheim

– The last place used as a pizzeria on the Weilheim city wall, right next to the city library, stood empty for a good ten years.

After six months of "intensive renovation work", according to the new tenants, the rooms now shine in new splendor - and house something that does not exist in the area: the acrobat Yvonne Hoffmann (33) and the magician Stefan Schmitt (47) , both from Fürstenfeldbruck, are fulfilling a long-cherished dream with the magic theater "Verschmittst" including a bar and lounge.

The two premiere performances this weekend are already sold out.

Now the project has been officially presented to the representatives of the city and district.

"It's more typical for big cities"

"It's magical when you come in here," said Mayor Markus Loth: "You can tell right away that something very special is happening here." He thanked the two artists, who are also a couple privately, for having the courage to start their project to establish in Weilheim.

Such a private theater is "rather typical of big cities like Munich or Augsburg", said Loth - but it fits "very well with the cultural city of Weilheim".

The Neu-Weilheimer: "This room was waiting for us"

The operators had the basement redesigned into a veritable theater space with an impressive stage in the corner, 65 comfortable seats on the stands around it and "proper lighting and sound technology".

"This room has been waiting for us," said Schmitt.

And he made curious about the planned shows, said the guests of the small tour.

From now on, the artist couple will be showing their “Resonanz” show, which was specially conceived for this location, every Saturday and combines mental magic with elegant aerial acrobatics.

The program was inspired by "the magical moments that you experience in everyday life, perhaps without paying the attention they deserve," explained Hoffmann.

The audience is "up close" in this theater and is included in the show - "respectfully and on an equal footing", assures Schmitt,

The theater should attract guests from all over Germany

Before and after the show, as well as during the break, visitors can enjoy fine drinks in the exclusive Bar & Lounge on the ground floor.

As a rule, they will only be opened in connection with the magic theater, according to Schmitt.

Company events or birthday parties are also possible.

The aim is to "establish the magic theater 'Verschmittst' in Germany" and to attract visitors from afar.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß is already certain: This magic theater enriches “the district of Weilheim-Schongau and the entire Oberland”, as she wrote in a welcoming address.

Weilheim's culture officer Ragnhild Thieler was also "happy" about the new offer, which was "quite urban".

She doesn't see "Verschmittst" as a competitor to the Stadttheater, but as an enrichment.

From the point of view of city marketing, too, the magic theater is "an absolute added value", added Jutta Liebmann, head of the office for location promotion, culture and tourism in the town hall: "something we can score with".
