The Realschule Oberding has its first school garden.

There was space for this on a field next to the water association, and the starting gun was fired with a planting campaign.

Oberding – Vice President Dirk Gärtner especially thanked the father of a student who had done the preparatory work with his tractor.

The plot of land was made available by the municipality, and members of the “GemüseAckerdemie” organization supported the whole thing with the selection of the seeds and tips – including how wide the beds have to be and where the paths are best placed.

They also taught the six teachers who will in future help as “field buddies” so that salad and vegetables grow from the seed.

The secondary school has long had the option of health and nutrition, led by teacher Kathrin Kratzl.

13 students from the fifth to eighth grades are taking part, and they all work hard in the fields.

They also supported some tenth graders in planting potatoes, beetroot or chard, among other things.

Rector Martin Heilmaier said: "Such an action is at least as important as normal lessons.

Here the students get to know a completely different appreciation for food.”

The Water Association ensures that there is always enough water available for the still tender seeds.

He provides a large ton with always sufficient supplies.

The first action took place on part of the property.

For the remaining area, which is a bit larger, there is a cooperation with the Schmid farm from Notzing.

As early as mid-May, the employees come with their machines to work the soil in such a way that potatoes can be planted there.

Heilmaier emphasized that his school is also supported by the farmers when growing the potatoes: "The students should see where the fries from the fast food restaurant come from."

But now it's time to take care of the first planting thoroughly and regularly.

Kratzl emphasized that everything will later be used in the school kitchen.
