On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, official and popular events today visited a number of martyrs’ cemeteries in the governorates, laid wreaths on their shrines, and recited Al-Fatihah for their pure souls. Also, the curtain was unveiled on the memorial to the martyrs of Al-Kindi Hospital at the southern entrance to the city of Sheikh Badr in Tartous.

During a visit to Al-Dahdah cemetery in Damascus, the Governor of Damascus, Engineer Adel Al-Olabi, said in a press statement: “The Martyrs’ Day is the most sacred occasion to commemorate those who gave their most precious possessions for the sake of the homeland and wrote the greatest and brightest pages of sacrifice and redemption with their blood.”

The visit was attended by the Secretary of the Damascus Branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, Husam al-Samman, the provincial police chief, Major General Hussein Juma'a, the head of the Damascus Provincial Council, Khaled al-Harh, and a number of members of the Damascus branch leadership of the Ba'ath Party, the Executive Office and directors in the province.

In the cemetery of the martyrs in Najha in rural Damascus, the governor of Damascus countryside, Moataz Abu Al-Nasr Jamran, confirmed that the Syrian people continue to walk on the path of the martyrs... the torches of light and brightness that illuminated the path of the homeland.

The Secretary of the Damascus Countryside Branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, Eng. Radwan Mustafa, members of the Executive Office of the Rural Governorate, members of the Revolutionary Youth Union leadership, and a number of managers participated in the visit.

In front of the memorial to the Unknown Soldier in the city of Hama, the Governor of Hama, Engineer Muhammad Tariq Krishati, said, “The martyrs are the role model and the torch with which we guide and illuminate the path of struggle, and thanks to their blood, Syria has won over terrorism.”

The Secretary of the Hama branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, Eng. Ashraf Bashouri, Major General Turki Al-Saeed, the provincial police chief, and a number of officers of the army, armed forces and internal security forces participated in the visit to the monument of the Unknown Soldier.

In Tartous, the memorial to the martyrs of Al-Kindi Hospital in Sheikh Badr was unveiled, with the participation of civil, official and religious activities, where Al-Fatihah was read for the souls of the martyrs and a minute of silence was given, with poetic passages talking about martyrdom and the martyrs.

Alia Mahmoud, head of Tartous Governorate Council, told SANA reporter, “The memorial commemorates the martyrs of Al-Kindi Hospital,” while Engineer Basil Salman, head of the city council, pointed out that Sheikh Badr will continue to remember the heroism and sacrifices of the martyrs to chart the path of victory for future generations.

Director of the Martyrs’ Office in Sheikh Badr Hossam Dawa said, “On Martyrs’ Day, we celebrate the shining suns of this country that sacrificed blood to make Syria live.” While Suhaila Al-Ajji, the mother of the martyr Bunyan Wannous, one of the heroes of Al-Kindi Hospital, praised the role of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

Gandlin Al-Ali, the wife of the martyr Mahmoud Al-Ali, stressed that the martyrs sacrificed the most precious to protect their homeland, which we must preserve, while the father of the martyr Bashir Wannous indicated that his son will remain a pride for them immortal in their hearts for life.

On May 6 of each year, the Syrians celebrate Martyrs’ Day, the day on which Jamal Pasha the butcher executed a number of patriotic figures in Marjeh Square in Damascus and Burj Square in Beirut in 1916.
