Private individuals from Geretsried, Bad Tölz and Königsdorf collect together with the "Boundless Children's Aid" for the Ukraine.

"Everything is missing," they say.

Geretsried/Bad Tölz/Königsdorf – In the beginning there was the egg.

More precisely 17 280 pieces.

Shortly before Easter, the Russian war of aggression against the Ukraine had begun almost two weeks earlier, the Geretsried farmer Alexandra Zwickl came across the appeal from the Montessori association in Bad Tölz, which together with the organization "Grenzenlose Kinderhilfe" asked for support.

"What was more obvious to me than getting groceries?" Said the 39-year-old in an interview with our newspaper.

"I'm practically at the source."

The delivery of 17,280 eggs to Ukraine should not remain a flash in the pan.

Zwickl intensified the contact to the “Grenzenlose Kinderhilfe” and came across Saskia Groos.

She is responsible for the German communication and coordination of the collection points, transporters and drivers in the foundation and maintains contact with government agencies and the media.

She herself knows the founder of the "Grenzenlose Kinderhilfe", Janos Mester, personally.

The organization directly supports Ukrainian orphanages in Nagydobrony and Munkacs.

"Shuttle service" between the Highlands and Ukraine

The circle of helpers continued to grow: Murml Gold from Königsdorf is trying to find the essentials for a hospital in Skole.

"Everything is missing," she says, "from bandages to disinfectants to blood glucose meters." Her appeal brought unexpected success: the Asklepios city clinic in Bad Tölz promised her 40 hospital beds.

Fresh fruit was donated to Ukrainian children, among others.

The supporters now drive to a Munich wholesale market to collect fruit that is no longer for sale – apples, pears, oranges.

"20 hours later, a child in the Ukraine is holding the fruit in its hands," says Alexandra Zwickl, showing a photo of a little girl smelling an orange as if to prove it.

In the meantime, a kind of “shuttle service” has developed.

"We get the requirement lists, which we use to try to get everything," reports Saskia Groos.

Everything is transported with trucks that companies provide free of charge.

A "driver pool" of 30 to 40 volunteers is available.

"The only thing that worries us is the fuel issue," says Murml Gold.

A truck needs fuel worth around 1000 euros per trip, which also has to be financed by donations.

In order to be able to save here, the helpers got a customer account in a C+C wholesale store in Hungary.

"We then buy locally and pass it on," reports Groos.

The balance sheet is impressive: 235 tons of relief goods – including 51,840 eggs – have already been shipped with 78 trucks via numerous collection points such as at Zwickl in Geretsried, Gold in Königsdorf and the Montessori children's home in Bad Tölz.

An end to the relief operation is not in sight due to the ongoing fighting.

"We need more donations," emphasize the women.

“Everyone can feel addressed, regardless of whether it is a company or a private individual.

We guarantee that everything arrives 1:1.”
