Olaf Scholz is planning another statement on the Ukraine conflict.
The Chancellor's speech will be televised on Sunday evening.
Chancellor under pressure:
Olaf Scholz (SPD) has been criticized for his opaque attitude to arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Now he wants to address the people with another TV speech on the Ukraine conflict.
The TV explanation should be shown on Sunday evening (08 May) on ARD and ZDF.
Berlin - Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) wants to speak again in a television speech about the Russian war against Ukraine.
Such a speech is being planned, government circles in Berlin said on Friday.
According to a report by Bild am Sonntag, the speech will be recorded on Sunday afternoon and broadcast by ARD and ZDF in the evening.
It will only last a few minutes.
The reason for the speech was therefore also the 77th anniversary of the capitulation of the then German Reich on May 8, 1945. This ended the Second World War in Europe.
Second TV speech on the Ukraine war
On the first day of the Russian attack on February 24, Scholz addressed the population via television.
The head of government was recently accused of not explaining clearly enough publicly the position of the federal government, among other things, on arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Scholz looks for TV appearances more often than his predecessor Angela Merkel (CDU).
Outside of the annual New Year's speech, Merkel only made one additional statement on television at the beginning of the corona pandemic.
In the first five months of his term as chancellor, Scholz was also seen more often in TV interviews than Merkel in comparable periods.
