When the sun shines on the display, almost nothing can be seen at the ticket machine at Poing S-Bahn station.
This causes problems for some customers.
The train announces improvement.
Poing – Ms. Meier is standing on the platform in the direction of Munich, the sun is shining and she is in a good mood.
The elderly lady from Pliening would like to buy an S-Bahn ticket from the ticket machine, but: "I couldn't see anything on the display." Because the sun was shining directly on it, no information was legible.
"I couldn't buy a ticket."
Poing: S-Bahn customers report difficulties
In the recent past, several S-Bahn customers on the north side of Poinger station had the same experience as Ms. Meier.
Some have contacted our editorial team and described their experience at the machine.
We asked Deutsche Bahn AG, which is responsible for the Munich S-Bahn.
“In individual cases, unfavorable sunlight at certain times of the day or certain weather conditions can make a machine display difficult to read.
That's why we always make sure to place the machines in such a way that the problem doesn't occur," is the answer of a railway spokesman.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)
He also wrote by e-mail at the request of our editors: “In Poing, some of the ticket machines were dismantled due to the construction work there or were in temporary locations.
Since April 26th they have been in their final locations.
This means that three machines are now available again on the platform in the direction of Munich.”
Deutsche Bahn refers to different orientations of the machines
When setting up, the railways took the solar radiation into account and placed the machines in such a way that they are protected from the sun as much as possible.
The machines are located under the platform roof and are also aligned differently.
“So there is a machine whose operating side is oriented to the east and one whose operating side is oriented to the west.
Depending on the time of day and the weather, there is at least one machine in the shade.”
From 2024, better displays should be used
According to the Deutsche Bahn press office, there are a total of four machines in Poing.
"So there is always a way to buy tickets on site." There are also other sales channels, such as the "DB Navigator" or "Munich Navigator" apps for smartphones.
Tickets can also be purchased at the Poinger station kiosk.
Deutsche Bahn is in principle aware of the occasional problem with solar radiation, which also occurs at other train stations.
Another quote from the e-mail reply: “In principle, a new generation of machines with brighter displays should be used from 2024.
A significant improvement in the readability of the display can be expected even in direct sunlight.”
