The brutal attack that took place on the eve of Independence Day in Elad, dragged Israel into an extensive manhunt for its perpetrators.

The efforts of the security forces and the attempt to bring an end to the wave of terrorism have raised the question of the assassination of Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sivnar.

But just before the Twitter tweets and newspapers send out Air Force planes or our excellent guys, we might need to mention a few facts.

First, it must be remembered that the assassination of Sinwar will lead to a battle against Gaza.

That is, the escalation that at best and least likely will last a few days, and at worst and more logical, a few weeks or months.

Second, the next round will end, more or less, at the same point: Hamas will not erase from the map, some of its senior officials will also survive the future campaign and they will come out of the tunnels and tunnels, declare victory and swear to continue fighting Israel.

On the Israeli side, assuming that no ground campaign is launched, there will be casualties among the population, significant damage will be done to the Gaza Strip but also to other cities including Jerusalem and the center.

Also, at the end of the day, the government - and for those who are also wondering a government in which the PM is not a partner - will stop the fire when it realizes that the next step means a ground entry into the Strip.

It may be time to put Yahya Sinwar in the bloodshed

And there is another possibility in which Israel decides to launch a ground operation with the aim of overthrowing Hamas: such an operation would require the presence of thousands of IDF soldiers inside the Gaza Strip, significant casualties among the soldiers, and perhaps even a soldier or kidnapped soldiers. On international criticism and the deterioration in relations with Arab countries with which we have relations.

Sinwar is a mortal.

But displacing Hamas has a price

And let us assume that the next campaign will indeed lead to the collapse of Hamas and the destruction of the military infrastructure.

Then, the army will be forced to remain on the ground as a quick exit from the Gaza Strip will quickly lead to the resurgence of armed groups, even those affiliated with Hamas who will quickly resume firing at Israel to prove they have managed to survive the war.

The northern front will probably also ask to leave some mark and it can be estimated that Hamas will try to launch rockets from Lebanon as well and with the blessing of Hezbollah.

In other words, for a real act of uprooting Hamas, Israel is required to occupy more than two million Palestinians and stay in the Gaza Strip.

For the avoidance of doubt, Yahya Sinwar is a mortal in my eyes.

Sinwar is the scum of the human race even in terms of his people.

In the Israeli prison, he was nicknamed "Abu Tanash" (the father of the 12) for his involvement in the murder of 12 collaborating suspects.

He took part in severe torture of Palestinians even before his arrest and also in prison and after his release he was involved in the abduction and execution of a battalion commander in the military wing of Hamas.

Precedes Gaza.

But any of us who write that "must" or "should" eliminate Sinwar, should also recognize the price that such action will have - in the families that will join the bereaved, injured and disabled family.

And perhaps it should also be understood that Israeli governments since 2009, under Benjamin Netanyahu and under Naftali Bennett, have no desire to destroy Hamas in Gaza.

On the contrary.

These governments see Hamas as a partner in maintaining peace in Gaza.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

But this is Israeli policy for the past 13 years.

This was the case in the days of Netanyahu, who did everything in his power to strengthen Hamas in the Gaza Strip and weaken the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, as well as in the days of the current government, which did not deviate from its previous policy.

There are moments and places where going to war is necessary and justified.

For example, the launch of Operation Defensive Shield or even the justified second Lebanon War, which was conducted in a failed manner.

But it is doubtful whether going to war with Gaza will now solve the problem of terrorism from the West Bank.

And if a military operation is needed, it may be worthwhile before Gaza to address a much more burning problem: Jenin and the surrounding villages.
