The municipality of Gröbenzell has set itself the goal of offering alternatives to cars, including e-cars.

Five so-called mobility stations should contribute to this, which the municipal council has now decided by majority.

The mobility stations are a district-wide project.

Such stations will be introduced in a total of ten municipalities in the district, some in 2023, some in 2024. In Gröbenzell, these are to be created at the southern S-Bahn station on Kirchenstrasse, at the sports center and at the bus stops “Am Sandberg”, “Am Zillerhof” and on the Ziegeleiring .

Not just approval

This offer was not met with unanimous approval from the municipal council.

Michael Jaumann (CSU) does not fundamentally reject this, but does not think it is appropriate for Gröbenzell.

"That's wasted money," he is certain.

Especially since Jaumann Michael is convinced that 99 percent of Gröbenzellers own their own bicycles.

Walter Voit (Greens), on the other hand, spoke of a sensible concept.

And Peter Falk (SPD) emphasized: "This is one of the components to get away from the car." Daniel Holmer (Greens) is also convinced: "Every Munich citizen who comes by S-Bahn and then takes a bike, stands not on the state highway.”

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)

Mayor Martin Schäfer (UWG) added: "It's worth a try." But he is also convinced that the project needs start-up times.

The five stations in Gröbenzell are scheduled to go into operation in 2024, some with ten as at the S-Bahn station, some with five rental bikes like at the other stations.

A car-sharing parking space is also planned at the S-Bahn station.

In addition, there will be parking facilities for private bicycles and cargo bikes, luggage compartments and repair facilities along with air pumps at the stations.

The costs

The investment amounts to around 40,000 euros and the annual operating costs are estimated at a maximum of just under 34,000 euros.

However, the latter item depends on which offers are received in response to the district's call for tenders, none have yet been submitted.

In addition, every loan reduces the costs.

But one thing is already certain: the first and second mayors of Gröbenzell, Martin Schäfer (UWG) and Martin Runge, both passionate cyclists, will not be able to use the stations.

You need a smartphone to book the bikes.

And neither of them own one.
