Mother's Day is approaching, the Women's Affairs Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions announced today (7th) the survey on "Working Women's Understanding of Sex Discrimination Ordinance".

As a result, 60% of the respondents said that the company did not have a breastfeeding space or related personnel policies.

In addition, nearly half of the respondents said their employers do not have a mechanism for reporting sexual harassment.

The survey also found that nearly one-third of the women interviewed had experienced sexual harassment, but the employee did not know how to report it to the employer, or the employer did not provide substantial assistance after complaining, and the incident was finally played down and left unresolved.

The Women's Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions said that gender discrimination among working women is mostly civil in nature, and the deterrent is insufficient.

The survey results also showed that employers did not understand the amendments to the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, and the EOC should step up publicity to make working women more respectful.

A survey by the Women's Affairs Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions found that 63.9% of the 296 interviewed working women said that the company did not have a breastfeeding space or related personnel policies.

Amendments to the Sex Discrimination Ordinance prohibiting discrimination against breastfeeding women will come into effect in June 2021.

According to the Federation of Trade Unions, the survey results reflect that the relevant companies have not adjusted according to the new revision, which increases the risk of the company being complained about in the future.

The survey also found that nearly 50% of the 105 respondents who had breast-fed breast-feeding had a lack of space for breast-feeding in the company, which aggravated work pressure.

The Women's Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions urges employers to provide a breastfeeding environment and corresponding space.

The Women's Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions pointed out that convictions for gender discrimination related to working women are generally civil and have insufficient deterrence.

It is suggested that criminal prosecution offences should be added to the transference liability of employers to enhance employers' awareness of protecting employees from sexual harassment.

The company lacks a reporting mechanism, and the sexual harassment incidents are over

The survey also includes the situation of female employees suffering from sexual harassment in the workplace. Among the 299 respondents, 45.2% of the respondents said that their employers did not have a relevant reporting mechanism, and 36.8% of the respondents said that their employers did not formulate clear rules. complaints and assistance measures.

Even if they are sexually harassed, employees do not know how to report to their employers and ask for intervention.

Among the respondents, 110 working women have been sexually harassed, accounting for about one-third.

Among them, more than 40% believed that even after the complaint was filed, the employer did not deal with it substantively, or that the issue was settled under pressure from the management.

Some of them did not trust the relevant policies, which eventually made the incident come to an end.

The "Sex Discrimination Ordinance" mentions amendments that prohibit discrimination against breastfeeding women. The relevant regulations will come into effect in June 2021, and both employers and employees must abide by them.
