In "Cedric's Restaurant" in Ratingen near Düsseldorf, guests now have to pay 3 euros for admission.

The restaurant asks for a separate checkout due to increased costs.

Ratingen – Paying for entry to a disco or club is nothing unusual.

Being asked to pay separately in the restaurant is all the more so.

You actually only pay for food and drinks there.

In Ratingen, a restaurant now apparently sees things differently.

Because the costs of food, energy and staff have risen significantly, a restaurant owner from Ratingen (Mettmann district) is now charging his guests three euros extra - in a way as an entrance fee, as

reports.

Unfortunately, according to the website of “Cedric's Restaurant”, one sees oneself forced to make this “contribution to costs”.

Cedric's Restaurant in Ratingen now charges three euros as admission - an isolated case?

The move is unusual.

The entire catering industry is groaning under the increased costs.

This is also due to a collective agreement that has been in force since May, which provides for a hefty wage premium.

Usually, however, the restaurateurs pass on the costs to the customers via a more expensive menu - that is less noticeable than an explicit "cost contribution", as Cedric's is now demanding.

Dear guests, due to the extremely high costs in the areas of purchasing, staff and energy, we are unfortunately forced to charge a fee of €3.00 per guest

A spokesman for the industry association Dehoga NRW said on Saturday that this was probably an isolated case: "We assume that in the future you will not have to pay 'entrance' to visit a restaurant."

Nevertheless, guests in other cafés, pubs and restaurants will probably have to dig deeper into their pockets in the future.

Because the association expects "that due to the significant price increases, almost all restaurateurs will have to recalculate their dishes and then make price adjustments".

This is “a tricky situation for the industry because on the one hand you don’t want to overwhelm the guests, and on the other hand the explosion in costs for goods such as energy and personnel after more than two years of the pandemic and its effects can often not be borne alone,” said the association spokesman.

A recent Dehoga survey among the members of the association showed that around nine out of ten entrepreneurs see rising prices for energy and food as an enormous challenge.

Seven out of ten are also concerned about higher staff costs.

The shortage of skilled workers is also causing a bad mood among restaurateurs.
