Eleven Egyptian soldiers were killed today (Saturday) in a terrorist attack in Sinai, east of the Suez Canal.
This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Egyptian army.
The officer and the ten soldiers were reportedly killed after being attacked at the post by gunmen from terrorist militias.
Five other soldiers were wounded.
An Egyptian army spokesman said in a statement that he had thwarted a terrorist attack at a water pumping station in the canal area and that a confrontation had taken place with the armed activists.
It was further stated that the hunt of the Egyptian army forces for the operatives of the armed squad continued and that as part of the operations to capture them, one of the isolated areas in Sinai was captured.
