The bike park on Beuerberger Straße has been open to traffic again for a week.

The site lay fallow during the pandemic.

Now things are going again - thanks to dedicated parents.

Königsdorf

– The Königsdorf bike park, one of the first of its kind in the district, has been lying idle for the past few years.

The reason, as for so many things recently: Corona and the associated contact restrictions.

The area at the edge of the forest on Beuerberger Strasse grew overgrown, and the future was extremely uncertain.

In the past few weeks, the children and youth development association, as the sponsor, together with committed mothers and fathers, have not only cleared the area of the undergrowth, but also made it much more attractive.

Now the reopening took place with ice cream and cool music.

Kickers, pump tracks, one line

It was hard work for everyone involved, but it was worth it.

Next to the big hills (“kickers”), small hills (“pump tracks”) were laid out, which allow the little ones to practice.

A small path ("Line") leads through the forest provided by Walter Weiss from Gelting.

While the boys let off steam, the parents can rest on three benches, a teepee tent is in the works, and bird and bat boxes may also be added in the near future.

"It turned out really nice," said Mayor Rainer Kopnicky.

The chairman of the children and youth development association in Königsdorf, Hanspeter Schön, pointed out how important such a bike park on the doorstep is.

"No one has to get in the car and drive to Bad Tölz or anywhere else." The first generation of users has grown up and has other hobbies.

In this respect, it was not at all easy to start the project from scratch.

“But we succeeded.” A survey last year among 12 to 18-year-olds showed that the need is there.

In the past, the rule applied: "Only those who help out can drive." This is also how it is handled now.

Only those who help are allowed to drive

Mayor Kopnicky's speech also pointed in this direction.

"Of course, the building yard was happy to help," he said.

In principle, however, it should be up to the young people to maintain the site.

There are warning examples from other municipalities where a bike park was built with a lot of money, but which is not used by young people or only occasionally.

It is also important to seek agreement with the neighbors.

"That increases acceptance."

Walter Weiss, known as the new commander of the Gelting fire brigade, made his forest available free of charge and showed great sympathy for the project.

"It's a really nice use," he said.

"I'll leave the rest of the forest to nature." He said and cleared the way for the youngsters, who proudly showed off their tricks and jumps.

In the next few months, the Königsdorf kids can continue to practice tricks.

The bike park will be open daily from April 1st to October 31st.
