But as in fairy tales, they too need a good mouthpiece with a sense of aesthetics and functionality that will make magic happen

The couple bought the apartment because they saw its potential, but it was clear to them that in order to realize it Planning and redesign are needed. They came to designer Ranna Peretz in terms of needs and desires and with a dream of a country-style house.

"From the first meeting it was clear that customers had clear functional requirements, but the dream of a" country house "was general and vague.

It was important for me to give this dream a place and an answer, but at the same time to open up more directions, and to combine other and additional preferences, of the couple and mine, "says interior designer Ranna Peretz.

The dream of a "country house" was a little too vague.

From the common discourse, the general line of the house is formed, which combines elements from different styles, with the connecting thread between them all being the limited color scale chosen - a combination of light shades and natural materials.

"In the bathrooms we came out of this pattern and for each of them we chose a more colorful color, but it is also delicate and clean and blends in with the overall color of the house."

Ground Floor

The entrance floor includes the kitchen, living room and room of the adolescent son.

Originally, the space looked like a classic contractor's apartment from 20 years ago - flooring in standard beige tiles, a venge-colored kitchen, plaster cornices for lighting along the living room and gray windows from a simple profile.

"The apartment has 3 air directions, on the entrance floor many windows and despite that, in the original condition the space felt dim. My goal was to ventilate it - to clean it of unnecessary elements that were loaded on it, open it and emphasize the view and light," Peretz explained.

During the renovation, the windows were replaced and a light Belgian-style aluminum profile with blackened handles was chosen.

The floor is covered with natural oak parquet and the walls of the house are painted in simple and fresh white.

At the entrance to the house there is a foyer with two niches - in one a carpentry unit was designed that combines a mirror and a dresser and hides electrical infrastructure.

The dresser is beige-gray, and above it the niche is covered with natural-colored oak.

Behind the front door is the additional niche, which serves as a coat closet and is closed with white doors.

Enriches the space with extra materiality.

In the transition from the foyer to the living space, a glass and metal cabinet is placed, which enriches the space with additional and different materials.

The selected wall lamps gently incorporate the rustic touch, with the glass shade of the lampshade matched to the overall color scale.

The kitchen

The old, dark kitchen, which is spread over only 2 sides, has been replaced by an H-shaped kitchen, which utilizes the three sides of the space for large storage and a large work surface, which contains a double sink, an induction hob and 2 additional gas stoves.

The white kitchen facades have a delicate frame, combined with units in natural oak.

The metal touches, in the handles and in the light fixture, are all blackened brass.

At the beginning of the process, the customers wanted to create a separate dining area and to that end, expand the public space and include the outdoor pergola area.

For budget and schedule reasons, it was decided to give up this move.

"It was not easy for customers to give up a classic dining area, but after reviewing the various sketches I prepared, it was also clear to them that an independent dining area, in the given area, would come at the expense of the living room and create a crowded, cluttered and uncomfortable space."

The solution was to put the dining area in the kitchen.

For this purpose, a massive oak table was chosen, which is used by the members of the household for everyday meals, and can be enlarged for hospitality.

Sage-colored chairs with straw seats were attached to the table.

Living room

The living room space was adapted for multi-participant hospitality.

It is a space rich in materials and textures, in which a balance is made between a dignified and mature look, which the customers wanted for a light and airy feeling, which the designer wanted to give it.

From the living room there is an exit to the upper courtyard.

During the renovation, the pergola was renewed, a ceiling fan was installed and it is used as an additional area for eating and entertaining.

Adolescent unit

The only bedroom on the entrance floor was allocated by the parents to the teenage son and one of the important things for them in the renovation was adding a bathroom for him on this floor.

In the new design, a small warehouse that was adjacent to this room and led to the courtyard became a cozy and useful bathroom.

A heavy iron door that served as a passage between the warehouse and the yard has been replaced with an aluminum door with a window, which allows natural light to enter and ventilate the new bathroom.

The room is tiled with large terrazzo-looking tiles in natural shades, the walls are covered with white tiles that create a feeling of space and cleanliness, to which a deep blue bathroom cabinet has been adapted.

Bedroom floor

The living floor descends the stairs to the bedroom floor.

This floor was also re-canopied with the same parquet as the entrance floor, thus creating continuity and harmony between the parts of the house.

One of the most important things for the customers was to put on this floor the washing machine and dryer, which had previously been placed in an outdoor warehouse in the upper courtyard.

"The convenience of managing daily tasks is one of the important things for the quality of life, so before any aesthetic and design decision there must be a correct and smart design that solves problems and addresses functional needs," says the designer.

The general bathroom has been expanded and redesigned in a way that will contain the laundry area and allow storage space for cleaning materials and toiletries.

For the children's bathroom, a green terrazzo-like flooring was chosen with touches of pink and cabinets in a smoky pink hue.

The couch moved with them from the previous house.

Family corner (Photo: Maya Avgar)

Another function that was lacking for customers in the existing structure of the house was a family corner for watching TV and playing.

For this purpose, it was decided to give up one bedroom, and by demolishing the wall common to it and the passage between the rooms, the designer created an open and shared space.

In the family room was installed a large library containing toys, books and the TV screen, and in front of it a sofa that passed with the customers from their previous home and fit exactly into this space.

In the master bedroom there is a wall closet enclosed in a niche, but it was not enough for the necessary storage.

To increase the storage space, the designer designed a carpentry unit that includes a closet, headboard and sideboards that gently wrap the bed.

The carpentry unit takes full advantage of the wall but maintains airiness and lightness.
