Participants in the consultative meeting on setting public health priorities in Syria during the Early Recovery and Resilience Framework convened by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization today discussed ways to identify the expected related strategic priorities in the medium term.

The meeting also dealt with defining the role of partners working in the health sector for cooperation by reviewing and building consensus on the priorities of the draft country cooperation strategy for the World Health Organization in Syria, and discussing and defining the general framework of the joint plan.

During a presentation presented by the Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Wiam Haidar, she indicated that the post-war Syria program includes four phases: the relief and response phase, the recovery phase, the restoration of balance, the recovery phase, the trend towards creating value added, strengthening sectoral linkages, and activating small and medium enterprises to revive the economy and the stage of development sustainability. in its sectoral dimensions.

Dr. Haider indicated that the axes of the program’s work are embodied in drug security, chronic disease treatment programs, human resource development, in addition to achieving comprehensive health coverage, defining the health services package, ensuring coverage of the entire population, preserving existing employment and developing human resources, explaining that work is being done to review the legislation and decisions regulating in The medical section.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Dhamiriya, highlighted the significant damage to the infrastructure of health facilities left by the terrorist war on Syria, in addition to the repercussions of unilateral coercive sanctions and the spread of the Corona pandemic and their direct impact on health services, indicating the importance of coordination to achieve development goals in Syria in light of Syria’s post-war program According to its four stages, especially the early recovery stage.

In turn, the representative of the World Health Organization in Syria, Akjamal Makhtumova, pointed out that the war that Syria suffered from affected the health sector greatly, which required the development of a strategic plan to deal with the current situation and move to another stage to move towards recovery, stressing that the organization seeks in cooperation with the Ministry to achieve comprehensive health coverage In syria.

The meeting was attended by directors of the Ministry of Health and representatives of some relevant ministries, international organizations and programs and NGOs.
