Around 4:30 a.m., a VW van drove into an unsecured accident site.
According to the latest information, eleven people were injured, six of them seriously.
In addition, a 33-year-old first responder lost his life.
This was followed by a large-scale operation lasting hours on the freeway.
The fatal accident was preceded by a rear-end collision, as reported by the Frankfurt police.
When changing lanes, two cars collided, occupied by two men (20 and 44 years old) and a man and a woman (38 and 42 years old).
Both cars first crashed into the crash barrier and then came to a standstill in the middle of the A3 lane – one car was standing in the opposite direction of travel, the other was thrown forward a good 150 meters by the force of the impact.

"Moments later", according to the police, a Mercedes Vito stopped on the hard shoulder and three men (21, 33 and 38 years old) got out.
They ran to the rear of the two cars to help its occupants.

One of the men was fatally injured and died on the highway.
According to the police, there were five men between the ages of 27 and 39 in the VW Transporter.
One of the occupants has not yet been identified.
A 39-year-old is said to have driven the van.
It was said that he noticed the scene of the accident too late.
According to initial investigations, the man is said to have been drunk, as reported by fnp.de.
The A3 was completely blocked at Frankfurt Airport for several hours.
The roadway was reopened at 12:25 p.m.

Two cars are said to have collided on the median in the direction of Cologne.
A third uninvolved car stopped in the hard shoulder, police said.
One or more occupants are said to have got out and stepped onto the road to help the victims.
At that moment, a fourth following car crashed into the scene of the accident from behind.
A person died.
