Allegations of plagiarism against the new CSU General Secretary Huber

Martin Huber has only been the new Secretary General of the CSU since Friday.

Now a plagiarism researcher is making allegations that Huber misquoted in his doctoral thesis.

Munich - After allegations of plagiarism, the new CSU General Secretary Martin Huber has his dissertation checked again by the university.

"I wrote my doctoral thesis to the best of my knowledge and belief," said Huber on Sunday.

"Nevertheless, for reasons of transparency, I ask the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich to check the work again." The "Bild am Sonntag" had previously reported on it.

The background are allegations by the plagiarism researcher Jochen Zenthöfer, who spoke in the "Bild am Sonntag" of quotations without or with incorrect source information in the dissertation.

Zenthöfer told the German Press Agency that the standards of good scientific work had not been met in the dissertation.

The errors went beyond individual citation errors.

A stage has been reached at which the university must review the work.

But the stage has not yet been reached at which one has to say: "The doctorate is definitely gone."

In 2007, Huber published a thesis entitled “The Influence of the CSU on the Western Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1954-1969 with regard to Relations with France and the USA”.

On Sunday he said: "More than 20 pages of bibliography and more than 600 footnotes document the source work."

Huber was only introduced on Friday as CSU general secretary.

The 44-year-old member of the state parliament took over the post from Stephan Mayer, who had announced his resignation after just over two months in office.
