Anger in settlement: Thousands of housing units dropped from MTA | Israel Today's agenda

2022-05-08T20:47:11.645Z

According to the residents, this is pressure exerted by the Americans ahead of US President Biden's visit to Israel • Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Council:

In the settlement, they are angry with the government for once again lowering the agenda of the settlement committee of the Supreme Planning Council (MTA) in the Civil Administration, thousands of housing units in various stages of planning, more precisely 2,000, and pointing the finger of pressure on Americans to visit US President , Joe Biden.

Last night (Sunday), several hundred residents from Samaria demonstrated in front of the Prime Minister's Office, in a protest led by the head of the Samaria Council, Yossi Dagan, in cooperation with the heads of the councils, Shlomo Ne'eman from Gush Etzion and Eliyahu Libman from Kiryat Arba.

The protest is, as stated, against the background of the publication last Friday regarding the agenda of the subcommittee on settlement, which will convene on Thursday this week to approve almost 4,000 housing units at various planning stages in Judea and Samaria.

The last time the committee convened was last October, when it approved several hundred housing units at various planning stages.

Even then, hundreds of building plans were cut from the committee's agenda.

At a hearing on Thursday, the committee is expected to approve 1,452 housing units for the deposit (initial stage of the planning process), as well as approve 2,536 housing units for the validity (final stage of the planning process before going out to tender).

Among others, 364 housing units in Dolev, 534 housing units in Shvut Rachel, 136 housing units in Givat Zeev, 761 housing units in Beitar Illit and 156 housing units in Kiryat Arba are expected to be approved. Complete construction has been dropped from the committee's agenda, including plans in Kfar Tapuach, Tel Zion, Mevo Dotan and Mevoot Jericho - where it is a retrospective settlement of the built settlement - a move that Netanyahu committed to while serving as prime minister.

"Stop the shame"

Yesterday, as mentioned, hundreds demonstrated in front of the Prime Minister's Office in protest of the construction cuts in Judea and Samaria, and in protest of the Defense Minister's intention to bring to the IAEA approval of Palestinian construction plans.

The demonstration was attended by the heads of the Samaria, Gush Etzion and Kiryat Arba councils, as well as MKs Orit Struck and Uriel Bosso.

According to Dagan, "Are we a fourth-class citizen in our country? In debt we are first - in the army, taxes and volunteering. Why are we always last in rights in our country? We come here at a difficult time, when Jewish blood is shed like water everywhere in the country. "In Ariel, what is the reaction of the government? Instead of bending the hand of the Palestinian Authority, we are restraining construction in the settlements."

Gush Etzion Council Chairman Shlomo Ne'eman: "In Gush Etzion, more housing units have been approved for Arabs than for Jews. And all around Biden's travel agency. I say: Biden, do not come! Stay. We have our own government. Government of Israel, stop this national shame, Stop bowing to the United States.

David Elhayani, Chairman of the Yesha Council: "While the residents of the State of Israel are in the midst of a wave of terrorism, the Palestinian Authority is getting permits to build housing units. Ganz is creating a dangerous equation that has never been here - instead of fighting the illegal takeover, he approves Palestinian housing units "This joins the blatant violation of the agreement on which the government was formed. The residents of Judea and Samaria are not a tool for political bargaining."
