The CDU ends its raven-black series of violent electoral defeats.

Georg Anastasiadis advises that you should also look carefully towards the coast in Munich.

Munich - The CDU can still win - but does it need a "comrade" at its head?

The brilliant Schleswig-Holstein election triumph of the Kiel CDU Prime Minister, who was mockingly called “Comrade Günther” because of his left-liberal profile, presents the Union with a tricky brain teaser.

The party left sees their belief confirmed that majorities in Germany for the Union can only be organized with Merkel politics;

the conservative wing, however, points to the recent series of defeats under Merkel, the outstanding victory of the gnarly conservative and Merkel critic Haseloff in the East and the fact that the federal party under Friedrich Merz has finally found its footing again.

State elections in Schleswig-Holstein: What can Söder learn from the message from the coast?

But what is the message from the coast – and what can Markus Söder learn from it, for whose CSU it is all or nothing next year in Bavaria?

In this country, those who manage to be perceived by the voters as authentic and reliable and secondly as a caretaker who fits in with the country and the people are elected.

Just as the popular Daniel Günther was able to do in the traditionally liberal north, but before that Reiner Haseloff, with a significantly different profile, did so in Saxony-Anhalt.

If the Union succeeds in giving different currents and schools of thought a home under one roof, and if it doesn't get lost in factional battles like in previous years, then it can best exploit its potential.

Schleswig-Holstein election: Merz has taken a step forward - NRW is already approaching

The new party leader Merz, who is clearly trying to find a balance, has already made good progress in pacifying the party and its reluctant wings.

It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to avert the loss of power in North Rhine-Westphalia, which has become almost vital for the CDU, next Sunday.

In any case, there is a gentle tailwind blowing from the coast.
