The maximum ten-minute survey for the 2022 census takes place at the front door.

District - This week, the survey officers begin with the first inspections.
This means that the randomly selected addresses are visited and the households living there are recorded.
For the survey, a total of 27,000 citizens will be interviewed by August 6th, the district office informs.
The inspections serve to efficiently plan the route for the interviews and to be able to send the households appointment notification letters.
“But this first step is not about personal contact between the survey officers and the local households.
That only happens during the interviews,” explains Karin Weiß, head of the survey agency.
The survey officers identify themselves without being asked using an official ID card from the survey agency and can use it to identify themselves.
All letters in connection with the census are also designed in such a way that they are clearly recognizable.
Conversation lasts five to ten minutes
Survey officers carry out the survey at the apartment door.
If there are doubts about the credibility, the person required to provide information can contact the collection agency of the district on Tel: 08041/505-407 or -704.
"The surveys actually always follow the same pattern," explains Weiß, "the interviewers usually post an appointment notice to the households to be surveyed".
The survey officers will come to your door on the specified date.
The personal interview lasts about five to ten minutes per person.
At least one adult household member must be present on the date specified in the notification letter.
A questionnaire is filled out for each person, including children.
If the announced date cannot be met, we ask that you make a new appointment.
Sensitive data is not requested
“It is particularly important for us to point out that all citizens know that we will not ask for any sensitive data such as bank details or passwords as part of the 2022 census.
There are also no questions about income or assets,” emphasizes Weiß.
Rather, it is about the surname, first name, date of birth, gender, nationality, marital status and other places of residence.
This only takes a few minutes per person.
In addition, it is assured that the data collected will only be used for official statistics, but that individual details will never be passed on to other authorities.
Around half of the households were also selected to answer an extended questionnaire.
It is about other questions, such as education and work.
At the same time, housing census is carried out
The census is an essential foundation of official statistics.
It provides basic data on the population, employment and housing situation of people throughout Germany.
The data is required as a basis for decisions about the distribution of political participation and financial resources, such as for the allocation of constituencies and electoral districts.
The head of the survey agency points out that "all persons selected for the survey are also obliged to provide information" and asks for cooperation.
Independently of the household survey, a census of buildings and apartments is also being carried out in Bavaria for four million owners at the same time.
You will receive access data for an online questionnaire by post from the State Office for Statistics.
More interviewers are being sought
Weiß reports that they are still looking for reliable survey officers.
