The defendants, aged 19 to 44, were presented to the prosecution and "
immediately judged
" on Friday for several lootings committed during the nights of January 19 to 21, 2022. A police operation on Wednesday had made it possible to carry out "
several arrests
" and “

”, detailed for AFP the prosecutor of the Republic of Pointe-à-Pitre, Patrick Desjardins.
One of the defendants, in whose house a weapon was found during a search, was sentenced to one year in prison with a warrant of committal.
Three others were sentenced to six months without immediate incarceration, according to Mr. Desjardins.
The fifth defendant was given a sentence of community service, while a sixth man, who was also already imprisoned, was summoned to appear before the criminal court at a later date.
The police said on their Facebook page that they seized during searches “
a pump-action shotgun
” and “
a dummy automatic pistol as well as telephone equipment from a burglarized sign
”.
Some 21 businesses had been looted in two days in Pointe-à-Pitre from January 19 to 21, 2022, according to the same source.
