The general renovation and extension of the hammersmith school will cost at least 51.8 million euros.

BVW and SPD explain the million-euro investment.

Wolfratshausen – The general renovation and expansion of the elementary and middle school on Hammerschmiedweg will cost the municipality at least 51.8 million euros.

Due to the expected price increases, it could even be more than 56 million euros.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (Bürgervereinigung Wolfratshausen/BVW), the school officer for the city council, Fritz Meixner (SPD), and other local politicians from BVW and SPD explained on Thursday evening in the Wirtshaus Flößerei why the rafting town should nevertheless afford the ambitious mammoth project.

"It is a project that will put a heavy strain on our budget for many years - but it is also a mandatory task," said BVW Chairman Thomas Eichberger.

The SPD local chairwoman Ingrid buckler agreed: "No future without education," she emphasized.

It all started in 2016 with a feasibility study

City Hall boss Heilinglechner reviewed the lengthy political decision-making process, which began in 2016 with a feasibility study - and after the decision to change the development plan two years later was significantly delayed due to many debates in the city council.

Although Heilinglechner regretted the loss of time, which contributed to the increase in costs, he can understand the "careful examination of the complex issue".

Families are expected to move in

"There has never been a larger project in Wolfratshausen," emphasized the mayor.

School referee Meixner used current figures and data collection to explain why modernization and expansion of the building complex on Hammerschmiedweg was essential.

According to him, a total of 401 new residential units will be built in the two school districts of Wolfratshausen and Waldram by 2026.

"We have to expect families with children to move here," says Meixner.

Due to the legal entitlement that will apply from 2026, which guarantees every primary school child a childcare place after class, there is an increased need for space and staff.

Groundbreaking could take place in spring 2023

Meixner, full-time managing director of the Wolfratshausen child and youth development association, is currently assuming that 520 Wolfratshausen children will have to be accommodated in after-school care or a midday care facility in the coming school year.

He hopes all the more that the groundbreaking ceremony for the major project on Hammerschmiedweg will take place in spring 2023 - and that the primary school can be occupied from the 2025/2026 school year.

However, this is only the first phase of construction.

Meixner also considers the subsequent completion of the middle school wing to be important, even if the development of student numbers in this segment is not yet foreseeable.

During the debate, BVW parliamentary group spokesman Josef Praller took a look at the upcoming meeting of the city council's building committee next Wednesday, in which, among other things, the heating concept for the hammersmith school is on the agenda.

An increase in costs in this regard cannot be ruled out.

"But this important project must not bring all our other projects to a standstill," said Praller.

SPD city councilor Fritz Schnalder was of the same opinion.

But: "We can only wupp this budget with cross-party cooperation." Wolfratshausen's ex-mayor Reiner Berchtold (SPD) hopes for state funding for the creation of 20 new elementary school and 16 new middle school classes.

According to Meixner, it is not yet possible to foresee how high the subsidy could be: "That would be reading coffee grounds."
