A state election is coming up in Schleswig-Holstein.

The last survey at least shows a clear winner.

In 2nd and 3rd place it remains exciting.

Kiel - According to the polls, the CDU will clearly celebrate after the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein on Sunday (May 8).

The distance to the runner-up is clear.

But surveys are not the final result, so it remains exciting.

But Daniel Günther should start election day with a good feeling.

In a recent survey on May 5, the ruling CDU is clearly ahead.

If the prime minister can form a coalition, he could continue to govern.

The SPD and Greens were on par in the ZDF "Politbarometer Extra" published on Thursday evening by the Elections for Schleswig-Holstein research group.

So it's going to be a head-to-head race.

Schleswig-Holstein election: CDU candidate Günther clearly ahead in the last poll - but NO forecast

The CDU with Prime Minister Daniel Günther came to 38 percent, as in the previous week.

The SPD with top candidate Thomas Losse-Müller lost a point and scored 18 percent.

The Greens, with top candidate Monika Heinold, gained one point - so they were also at 18 percent.

According to the survey, the FDP would get 8 percent (+1), the AfD unchanged 6 percent and the South Schleswig Voters' Association SSW, the party of the Danish minority, 6 percent (+1).

However, 31 percent were not yet sure which of the parties running or whether they wanted to vote.

The forecasts and projections for the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein can be found in this ticker.

CDU candidate Günther was also clearly ahead when it came to the question of who one would rather have as head of government.

64 percent named the incumbent Prime Minister, 11 percent Losse-Müller from the SPD and 10 percent the Greens Heinold.

Overall, however, such values only reflect the mood at the time of the survey.

ZDF emphasized that there are no forecasts for the outcome of the election.

But the lead of the CDU is not new, it has lasted for a few weeks.

Nevertheless, the SPD was in a better position in earlier surveys than it was recently.

Survey Schleswig-Holstein Election: "Jamaica" may not be needed anymore

Around 2.3 million people are called on Sunday in Schleswig-Holstein to vote for the new state parliament.

In general, the surveys show a high level of satisfaction with the work of the state government.

But something could change in the coalition structure: the CDU may be able to govern alone with the Greens in the future - without the FDP.

But Günther did not commit himself to a possible two-man option in advance.

He described a continuation of the incumbent Jamaica coalition with the Greens and FDP as his ideal constellation.
