Mysterious cases of illness: At a school in Leipzig, 150 children and teachers have probably been infected with a virus - but it's not Corona.
Leipzig/Munich – up to 150 children and teachers sick – that must be the corona virus, right?
no
In the Kurt Masur elementary school in Leipzig, the staff and the students were of course tested for Covid.
But then came the big surprise: "But a corona infection can be ruled out," said a city spokeswoman on Friday (May 6, 2022).
The
Leipziger Volkszeitung
and
MDR
first reported on the case.
A total of around 500 children attend the school.
Leipzig: Signs of a novovirus disease are increasing
According to the LVZ, the signs of a novovirus disease should intensify.
This virus is actually rare: According to the Robert Koch Institute, there were 2,209 cases of norovirus gastroenteritis throughout Saxony this year up to the beginning of May, compared to just 301 in the same period last year.
The patients suffer from diarrhea and fever.
Despite the tests by the health department, there is no clarity.
The veterinary office and the food inspectorate are also working on the case.
According to the city spokeswoman, food poisoning is not excluded as a reason.
Results should be available on Monday at the earliest.
For the time being, the school will also be cleaned.
The sick are only allowed to return when they are symptom-free.
The school, however, goes on.
