CDU Prime Minister Daniel Günther (48) managed to successfully moderate and resolve all conflicts.

Non-ideological and pragmatic, say those involved.

The election victory on Sunday with a huge lead over the competition is largely due to Günther.

Polls see him as the most popular head of government in Germany.

Very aware of this, the CDU relied entirely on him in the election campaign.

The fact that Jamaica has coped well with the Corona crisis is just as much a plus as the government's positive overall image.

Politician, long-distance runner, Catholic

After his rather surprising clear election success in 2017, Günther quickly established himself among the CDU prime ministers.

Then-Chancellor Angela Merkel soon included him in her smaller circles.

Born in Kiel, he is well prepared for discussions and expects the same from employees.

He is also persistent, which helps him as a passionate long-distance runner and as a politician.

The Catholic and political scientist was state manager of the CDU from 2005 to 2012, moved into the state parliament in 2009 and became parliamentary group leader in 2014.

The father of two daughters, who is married to a doctor, has lived in Eckernförde for a long time, loves going for walks with his family, and enjoys watching football and handball.

Günther cultivates a dry sense of humor and describes himself as disciplined, optimistic, down-to-earth and rational.

His taste in music ranges from classical to heavy metal, including hits.
