The president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, did not hesitate to take the microphone at the end of his administration to sing two pieces by the Argentine band Soda Stereo and remember the emblematic figure of Latin American rock Gustavo Cerati.

Alvarado did so at the ceremony in which the statue in memory of Cerati was unveiled in San José, the capital.

It is a donation from the government of Argentina in the framework of the bicentennial of the independence of Costa Rica.

Carlos Alvarado leaves this Sunday the presidency assumed by Rodrigo Chaves, who won the elections in the second round on April 3 for the period 2022-2026.

The transfer ceremony will be held in the Legislative Assembly in the morning, preceded by various cultural activities in the Plaza de la Democracia y de la Abolición del Ejército.

Cerati's statue will be placed in Parque Francia, located in Barrio Escalante, a town well known in the capital for its restaurants and cafes.

The ceremony was also attended by the first lady, Claudia Dobles Camargo, and the Argentine ambassador Luis Eugenio Bellando.

The statue is built with a clay base on a metal frame and stands 2.3 meters tall.
