It was created in 1986, just one year before the inauguration of the Parc de la Villette in Paris.
For 36 years, the barge "Pierre-Simon Girard" - named after the engineer who directed the work on the Canal de l'Ourcq designed by Napoleon I in the 19th century - has been the only cruise ship to be able to navigate all along from the Canal de l'Ourcq, from the Bassin de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of Paris to Meaux in Seine-et-Marne.
