The Syrian Trust for Development launched the initiative to plow the lands in the Al-Fakhoura district affected by the 2020 fires in Lattakia, with the participation of the mayors of municipalities, agricultural associations and the local community, based on the methodology of development plans and the adoption of this aspect as a work model for its implementation.
The Municipality stated in a statement published today on its official page on the social networking site “Facebook” that this initiative is a step in the way of launching the comprehensive development plan for the Al-Fakhoura sub-district within the framework of the initial response to the fires and confronting the challenges they imposed, starting with counting the damage and losses, through involving farmers with their ideas on how to compensate and invest their expertise. Personality and leading to tangible steps on the ground that contribute to the development of those societies and bring them back alive and strong.
The initiative aims, according to the secretariat’s statement, to plow 43,816 dunums, which is the burned lands, or about 44 percent of the total area of Al-Fakhoura district, funded by popular financial donations to which the Syrians contributed as compensation for those affected during the weeks following the wave of fires.
The plowing of the lands initiative will continue for 45 days, with the participation of the residents of Al-Fakhoura villages and many parties to reduce the financial burdens on farmers and prepare the lands for cultivation, as 96 tractors and 17 hoes have been secured in coordination between the Syrian Trust for Development, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the Farmers’ Union.
This initiative comes as a translation of what was agreed upon during the specialized workshop to develop the general orientation of the agriculture and livestock sector in the Al-Fakhura district, during which the reality of the agriculture and livestock sector was discussed with the participation of representatives from the local community and official and civil bodies. necessary to achieve these objectives, respectively.
