More than 100,000 businesses will be eligible for assistance • The plan was presented to the public at the end of February, and only now is legislation expected to be passed - which will result in a delay of several months in providing compensation

The government today (Sunday) approved Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman's proposal for an outline for business assistance, due to the damage from the Omicron.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Finance, more than 100,000 businesses in the amounts of thousands of shekels for small businesses and up to 600,000 NIS for small and medium-sized businesses will be entitled to assistance.

Main eligibility conditions:

Significant decrease in turnover: The threshold for decrease in turnover in the months 1-2 / 2022 compared to 1-2 / 2019 will be at least 35%.

2. The turnover of the business does not exceed NIS 60 million.

3. The business has not distributed dividends in recent years.

4. The eligibility conditions of new businesses opened in 2020 and 2021 will be similar to those given in previous grants to businesses opened in January-February 2020 so that they will be eligible for a regular grant.

This is an outline that was presented to the public at the end of February, and only now is legislation expected to be passed - which will result in a delay of several months in the provision of compensation.

The outline was harshly criticized by the self-employed, for example, in the Lahav organization (the bureau of the Independent Organization), the outline was described as "degrading" and defined the conditions of eligibility for assistance as "draconian" and much stricter than any previous aid program.

However, from the data presented today at the cabinet meeting and reached Israel Today, a slightly more optimistic picture emerges.

The data show that in the first quarter of 2022 there was a 33% increase in the opening of new businesses compared to 2019, while the data on business closures in the comparison periods remained unchanged.

The data indicate that not only has the economy recovered from the corona crisis, but it has also significantly improved its performance.

According to the Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman: "The government provides certainty to the self-employed and small and medium-sized businesses in the State of Israel. And without bureaucracy, to continue to move the economy and grow the Israeli economy. "

Deputy Prime Minister Abir Kara, who threatened to resign from the coalition if the self-employed are not compensated for the Omicron damage, also welcomed and wrote on his Twitter account: "For the first reading in the Knesset and it will be the first law to come up in the plenum after the recess. I hope that by next Monday it will pass a second and third reading. Immediately after the law passes, the independents could apply for a minimum bureaucracy.
