Uber, Deliveroo... Platform workers elect their representatives

DECRYPTION - A new social dialogue should allow freelancers linked to mobile delivery and VTC driver applications to improve their rights.

From this Monday, May 9 and until May 16, two-wheeled delivery people and VTC drivers are called to the polls.

The government has chosen not to equate platform workers (Uber, Deliveroo, Just Eat, etc.) with traditional employees, as Spain has done.

Similarly, the executive did not wish to create a specific status, as in the United Kingdom.

To improve their working conditions and acquire social rights, these self-employed workers will have to go through social dialogue and the election of representatives.

The stakes are high as their number has exploded, to the point of representing the majority of jobs created in certain districts.

30% of micro-enterprise registrations are now carried out in transport and warehousing activities, a term which includes “home delivery services”, versus 2% in 2010. Two-thirds of creations are under self-employed status.
