Kyiv - In the night of Sunday there was an air alarm in large parts of the country.

Explosions were reported from the southern cities of Odessa and Mykolaiv.

After a Russian airstrike on a school in the Luhansk region, the Ukrainian authorities say up to 60 people may have died.

After an airstrike on the school in Bilogorivka, two bodies have been recovered so far, the governor of the region Serhiy Hajdaj announced on his Telegram channel on Sunday.

"Probably all 60 people still under the rubble of the building are dead," he added.

According to him, the air raid happened on Saturday afternoon.

90 people had sought protection from the attacks in the school building.

The bombing caused a fire in the school and the building collapsed.

The emergency services were able to save 30 people - 7 of them were injured, according to the governor.

Bilogorivka is an urban settlement about ten kilometers west of Lysychansk.

The town is heavily contested.

Ukraine War News: Dramatic situation in Azovstal

According to unanimous Ukrainian and Russian information, during a ceasefire in the battle for Azovstal on Saturday, the last civilians were rescued from their hiding places.

For the remaining soldiers, however, the situation is desperate.

Observers assume that the Kremlin wants to take Azovstal as soon as possible so that it can announce the capture of Mariupol on Monday, the 77th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Hitler's Germany.

Ukraine war: Selenskyj complains about the destruction of cultural assets

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has complained about the destruction of cultural assets in Ukraine by Russian troops.

In the war of aggression that has been going on for two and a half months, 200 cultural heritage sites have been hit, Zelenskyy said in a video speech on Saturday evening in Kyiv.

As an example, he gave the rocket hit on the museum of the important Ukrainian poet and philosopher Hryhori Skovoroda (1722-94) in the Kharkiv region the night before.

"Unfortunately, when people disregard other people's rights, disregard the law and destroy culture, evil returns," Zelenskyy said.

Therefore, Ukraine defends its people, its cities and its museums against Russia.

On Sunday and Monday, the world commemorates the victory over National Socialism in World War II.

But the Russian approach shows "that it is impossible to defeat evil once and for all".
