The Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda estimated the production of 1150 tons of fava beans for the current season within the cultivated areas of 820 dunums.
The Assistant Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the production for the current season is good and there is an economic feasibility in cultivating beans, since its water need is relatively less than the rest of the vegetables, does not stress the soil, and its prices are appropriate.
Shehayeb pointed out that the cultivation of beans in Sweida is mostly irrigated by relying on wells, and is concentrated in the western region and Salkhad.
As-Suwayda Governorate produced 1126 tons of fava beans last season.
