The village bakery in Wombach in the Spessart had to be closed for health reasons.

Now the local residents rushed to the rescue.

Lohr am Main – In March of this year, the bakery in the Wombach district of Lohr in the Main-Spessart district had to close: the owner was forced to take this step for health reasons.

No more local bakery?

The citizens did not want to let this situation sit on them - and took action.

Bakery closes: villagers found cooperative

It's a real novelty: Because the residents of the Lohr district of Wombach wanted their beloved baked goods back using old craftsmanship, they joined forces and founded a cooperative, according to BR.

A working group set up by private individuals tackled the project, and more than 300 participants want to contribute financially.

The important threshold of EUR 100.00 was already exceeded by Easter.

Bahar Ucar, start-up consultant from the Bavarian Association of Cooperatives in Munich, emphasizes the special nature of the campaign to the BR: “We have restaurants, we have cafés, we have a lot of village shops, a lot of heat energy cooperatives, but I haven’t heard of a bakery yet heard."

Village cooperative takes care of the bakery itself - reopening is imminent

The bakery project's equity comes from members' shares.

The shares are available for 150 euros each, a person can hold a maximum of 50 shares.

The notice period is 24 months, according to the BR.

Now everything has to happen quickly: The plan is for the bakery to open on June 1st.

Simon Riedmann, an advocate of the old baker's trade, is then in the bakery.

Above all, he wants to inspire young people for the profession that exudes pure desire and joie de vivre.
