Having become essential on the windshield of every French car,
the insurance certificate
in the form of a green sticker could soon disappear.
In any case, this is the wish of France Assureurs, a federation of 247 insurance companies.
Discussions are ongoing with the Ministries of Interior and Economy.

Why might the green card soon disappear?
“This measure, at the regulatory level, requires a government decree. We are working on it with them. Today, our discussions with the public authorities lead us to believe that the project is on the right track. We are alongside the Ministries of the Economy and the Interior to participate in its implementation”,
assures Florence Lustman, President of France Assureurs.
An arbitration which will however have to wait for the reshuffle and the end of the summer.

It is a decision that will belong to the next government, with a decision that could reasonably be taken at the start of the post-summer break,
” we explain on the side of Bercy.
The federation of insurance companies, which has been campaigning for this abolition for several years now, puts forward several arguments:
"With the File of Insured Vehicles (FVA), we have a digital tool that is more than 99% reliable which makes it possible to fight effectively against non-insurance”,
highlights the president.
The information present on the green sticker is indeed already present in this file which was created in 2016, by the insurance companies themselves, in order to fight against fraudsters who falsify insurance certificates.
Each company must register any new insured vehicle within 72 hours.
Law enforcement has had access to it since 2019.

Added to this is an
ecological
and simplicity argument.
“The disappearance of paper documents would also contribute to the ecological transition: 50 million documents would no longer need to be printed or sent.
And that would simplify the life of the French!
“,

This green badge is, in fact, renewed each year by mail and users must change it on their windshield.

On this point, Bercy still wants to ensure the real benefits that this new provision could generate.

As for simplicity, it's a question of ensuring that by going paperless we set up an extremely easy-to-use electronic system.
We should not end up with an electronic system requiring more formalities than the paper system
, ”claims the Ministry of the Economy.
