NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst and the winner of the Schleswig-Holstein state election, Daniel Günther (both CDU), see the success of their party in the north as a tailwind for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia next Sunday.

Wüst said when he arrived with Günther at meetings of the CDU leadership on Monday in Berlin that the election success in Schleswig-Holstein showed:

Berlin - "The people's party CDU is fully there.

And people also appreciate good government work that ensures more security, a modern economy and secure jobs.”

Schleswig-Holstein is now approaching stable conditions, added Wüst.

"That's exactly what North Rhine-Westphalia is about, what we're campaigning for in the next few days: to become the strongest force and thereby get a clear government mandate for stable conditions." Günther said he was aware "that it is of great importance, this state election as a whole, also in Germany and of course a week before North Rhine-Westphalia".

Looking at Wüst, he said: "And if there is a bit of tailwind for you too, then I think it's not to the detriment of the CDU."

After his success Günther was relaxed.

When asked if he was sober again after the celebrations the night before, he replied: "Nope, at least not completely." It was good for him to have breakfast with Wüst.

"That felt good because I didn't eat much last night, but rather drank.

And then today to catch up on the right thing again, it was a good feeling.

And also to talk about how things went for us in Schleswig-Holstein.”
