The G7 summit will take place in the neighboring district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the end of June.

The major political event has many effects on the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

– Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and others will be coming together in the immediate vicinity of the region in a few weeks: Elmau Castle in Krün (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district) will be open for the second time from June 26th to 28th after 2015 venue of the G7 summit of the heads of state and government of the most important industrial nations.

The big event also radiates to Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

Here one primarily hopes for a good advertising effect.

Klaus Rauchenberger still has the photos that went around the world from Krün in 2015 clearly in his mind: Barack Obama toasting with local dignitaries, with the Karwendel backdrop in the background.

"These were impressive pictures," says the mayor of Jachenau.

"The advertising effect was tremendous." Rauchenberger assumes that those who feel inspired to travel by the summit photos will also look around for accommodation in Jachenau.

According to him, the "Hotel im Sonnental" with which the Jachenau town hall shares the building, the former "Post Office", is already fully booked from June 10th.

Police officers will stay here to ensure security around the summit.

One problem with this: "Ukrainian refugees are currently being accommodated there temporarily, they have to move out by then," explains the mayor.

Another point of contact between Jachenau and the summit event: the police rent a parking lot at Walchensee to store material there.

Contrary to what was last discussed in the municipal council (as reported), the police are now not using the municipal alternative parking lot in Einsiedl, but the privately operated night parking lot for mobile homes owned by the state forests, as Rauchenberger reports.

He is curious to see where the mobile home owners will go during this time.

He already notices that there are more police vehicles driving through the Sonnental.

Tourists in Lenggries also hope to benefit from the G7 summit.

A query a few weeks ago revealed that there were bookings for security forces in some accommodations, reports Maria Bader, head of the tourist information.

"On the one hand, it's nice when beds are occupied - on the other hand, the summit falls at a time when the summer season begins and many of our accommodations with regular guests are already fully booked," she says.

But she would be happy if security forces, who are now officially assigned to the Isarwinkel, later return privately with her family.

G7 summit 2022: Hope for tourism advertising effect - parents have childcare problems

Meanwhile, Thomas Holz hardly expects the G7 summit to have any immediate effects on Kochel am See.

"You get it, but it's still a bit away," says the mayor.

In the population, he rather perceives the mood: "Does that have to be?"

And there are requests from community workers who live in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district to take the days off around the summit.

Because from June 24th to 28th, the Ministry of Education ordered homeschooling there - some parents in Kochl therefore have a childcare problem.

Furthermore, the events at the summit affect Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen insofar as local security forces are involved.

The press office of the "Planning Staff G7 Summit 2022" answered the question of how many forces from the local police stations were dispatched there before and during the G7 meeting in a rather general manner: "We are also counting on a high police presence for the G7 Summit 2022". , according to spokeswoman Christina Meissl.

G7 summit in Elmau: Bavarian police on duty - "Preparations are in full swing"

"Preparations are already in full swing.

All Bavarian police associations are involved, including the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South with the associated inspections." Meissl emphasizes: "Regardless of this, citizens can assume that other police operations throughout Bavaria will also be carried out reliably and professionally during the time of the G7 summit be managed."

The mountain rescue services in the region are also preparing for the summit.

"In 2015, for example, there was a march by demonstrators in our area," recalls Johannes Zollner, Managing Director of the Hochland Mountain Rescue Service, where the threads come together.

For them, but also for the police and all the staff around the summit delegations, the mountain rescue services would ensure the rescue service in the sometimes detoured area around Schloss Elmau.

The mountain rescue services from the district would also be called in, according to Zollner.

This time, a little more spacious "pre-watches" would be set up.

The guard hut in Kochel is also being staffed with more staff and equipment.

G7 summit in Elmau: Technical relief organization and mountain rescue service in action

The Geretsried branch of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) also reports on preparations for the summit.

The THW generally provides administrative assistance for other organizations and thus supports "the safe implementation of the summit, the protection of the local population and the protection of the fundamental right to freedom of assembly," explains a spokesman for the state association when asked.

He keeps a low profile with details, but cites the catering of emergency services as an example.

In preparation, the local association in Geretsried recently set up a "command and communication vehicle" and tested telephony and internet connections on it, according to a statement.

Citizens could hear something from the G7 summit, especially on the streets.

"In connection with the police measures and the expected rallies, it will not be possible to completely prevent traffic impairments, including for residents in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen area," explains police spokeswoman Meissl.

Traffic delays are to be expected on the summit days.

Traffic obstructions due to the G7 summit: roads towards Mittenwald are probably "busy"

In particular, the routes between Munich city center and the airport and from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald could be "busy".

Thus, the B11 via Kochel and the Kesselberg might also be affected.

"It is advisable to drive around the event room as far as possible," says Meissl.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.

To ensure that there is as free travel as possible during the summit, there are instructions that there should be as few restrictions as possible due to construction sites during the summit period.

Does this mean that construction work has to be interrupted?

"We have agreed with the police that all construction sites in the district can continue," replies Martin Herda from the State Building Authority in Weilheim.

Because of the G7 summit in Elmau: paragliders at Brauneck have to pause

At the time in question, only the Dietramszell through road and the Holzhausen-Münsing connection were completely blocked.

Due to the redesign of the Tölz-West junction ("Treibhaus") of the B472, only one lane will be diverted.

And the half-way closure of the 2021 Schärflarn-Beijarten state road is not so important in terms of traffic.

Meanwhile, the paragliders at Brauneck have to take a break for the summit.

According to Christina Meissl from the police planning staff, no manned flights are allowed to take place within a radius of 56 kilometers around Elmau from June 26, 8 a.m. to June 28, midnight.

"This also applies to hang-gliders, paragliders and glider pilots." The Brauneck lies within this restricted flight area.
