A historic day in Fürstenfeldbruck: the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of the upgrading of platform 1 at Bruck station, which has largely been unused up to now.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Work has been going on on platform 1 for some time.

Now, however, high-ranking representatives from the railways and politics came to Bruck to initiate the hot construction phase with the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony.

After years of standstill, regional trains in particular are to stop at platform 1 in the future.

This is intended to increase the attractiveness of local rail transport.

In exceptional cases, S-Bahn trains should also be able to stop here.

Commissioning in autumn

Bavaria's railway representative, Klaus-Dieter Josel, announced the commissioning of the track for the (late) autumn of this year.

This was preceded by a four-year planning phase.

The platform will be 76 centimeters high and will have an elevator.

The square in front of track 1 is to be redesigned.

The conversion costs 4.65 million euros, Josel reported to several members of the state parliament at the on-site visit on Monday morning.

The Free State will pay four million euros.

And the city of Fürstenfeldbruck is also involved.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)

Bavaria's (new) Minister of Transport Christian Bernreiter (CSU) said that various groundbreakings were among his tasks - he would also like to be there when it was commissioned, as he said.

When the second S-Bahn tube in Munich should be finished one day, he hopes to be at least physically alive, Bernreiter said to the smiles of those present.

Among other things, Bernreiter also announced improvements to the fault-prone signal box at Ostbahnhof, whose unreliability also affects commuters from Bruck.

With the new platform, 28 regional trains will be able to stop in Bruck instead of the current 21, said Bernreiter.

This increases the attractiveness of rail transport.

Jewel for the city

Bruck's Mayor Erich Raff spoke of an emerging "jewel at the entrance to the city" and also recalled the expansion of the train station in Buchenau.

He announced that he wanted to improve the bicycle parking spaces at Brucker train station.

Overall, the expansion is a contribution on the way to climate neutrality.

Project manager Karin Hacker announced that the work will "really start" next week.

The old platform will be demolished and replaced by the new one including the roof.

A lift for the pedestrian underpass will also be built.

This means that passengers can reach platform 1 barrier-free.

There will also be a new staircase leading to the underpass.

The work should be completed by December at the latest and the car and bicycle parking spaces, which are temporarily used as construction site facilities, should be usable again, according to Deutsche Bahn.

Karin Hacker reminded that the city of Fürstenfeldbruck would contribute financially to the stairs.

All in all, one can look forward to what is emerging, says the project manager.

The magic of platform 1

As on the S4, there is also mixed operation in the Tagblatt - a mixture of commentary and commentary:

When the meaning of a certain platform is discussed in connection with a number, then some automatically think of the famous platform 9/three-quarters from the wizarding fairy tale Harry Potter.

This is a track that doesn't exist in the eyes of the mere mortal - and therefore has a certain similarity to the previous track 1 in FFB: It's somehow there, but at the same time not, which is supposed to change.

There is no doubt that the upgrading of platform 1 is now a historic step with the chance for improvements.

At the same time, however, it is also clear that further steps must be taken to increase operational safety on the S 4 route.

Some even believe that it really requires a magician.

In the novel, magic students and aspiring magicians start from platform 9/dreiviertel, leaving reality and entering a wondrous world with all sorts of wondrous occurrences, circumstances and experiences, which in turn also applies to S-Bahn commuters at least sometimes, whereby one thing is clear: from wondrous ones events, the strong world commuter emerges strengthened - or unnerved forever.

On site at the ground-breaking ceremony, given the briefly expressed skepticism, it was also said that one could be optimistic.

So let's hope for the best.

Bavaria's new transport minister is supposed to be a real magician.
