Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko denounced today the proposal of the European Union Coordinator for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell to withdraw frozen Russian funds and send them to Ukraine, describing it as "illegal and undermining confidence in Europe."
"This proposal is a destruction of the basis of international relations and constitutes a complete departure from international law," TASS news agency quoted Grushko as saying, warning that these decisions, if taken, would hit the Europeans themselves and the financial system and undermine confidence in Europe and the West in general.
Grushko noted that a large number of countries stand with Russia and will defend the world order on the basis of international law.
Borrell had suggested earlier today that European Union countries consider withdrawing frozen Russian foreign exchange reserves in order to direct these funds to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
