Update from May 09, 2022: On Thursday, May 5, 2022, around 10:45 p.m., several vehicles got stuck in the flood water of a flooded railway underpass on federal highway 23.

The vehicles sank, for one person any help came too late.

The permanent criminal service of the Kripo Weilheim has taken over the investigation under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.

A contact point in Brandenburg reported around 10:45 p.m. that a Polish national had informed the police in Poland that he had driven on the B 23 in his Polish van and got stuck in the water.

The B 23 was then searched.

The deployed fire brigade could only find two cars that were in the flood water.

A woman had saved herself on her vehicle roof and could be saved by a firefighter from Bad Kohlgrub at risk of death.

He had attached a ladder to the railing and had reached the lady on the roof.

There was no trace of the Polish small truck.

In order to search for the flood water, divers from the water rescue service were then deployed.

However, the search had to be stopped because the divers had absolutely no visibility in the water, there was a strong current and the divers' lives were in danger.

The water was pumped out for hours.

During the morning of Friday, the roof of a small truck became visible.

It was at the very deepest point under the railway bridge.

Here the water was about 8 meters deep.

A boat was used by the water rescue service.

The crew smashed a window of the vehicle and discovered a lifeless person.

The license plate number of the vehicle could be recognized from the cargo documents.

It is about the missing Polish small truck.

The male person, who has not yet been clearly identified, could only be rescued dead from the van by the rescue workers.

Presumably, it is a Polish citizen who was traveling in his small truck on the B 23 and was trapped in the underpass under the railway bridge by the flood.

According to initial inquiries, entry into the underpass was forbidden due to the red light being on at the time of the accident.

In the meantime, the Weilheim Criminal Police Inspectorate has taken over the case management under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.

Saulgrub -

Heavy thunderstorms erupted yesterday evening, May 5th, in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Heavy rain, flash floods, hail - the Ammer Valley was particularly affected.

There was a heavy flood in Bad Bayersoien.

In a matter of minutes, the water was five meters high on the B23 Saulgrub bypass.

The precipitation on Thursday evening was so extreme, especially in the Ammertal, that the fire brigades in the towns of Altenau, Saulgrub, Bad Bayersoien and Bad Kohlgrub could no longer cope with the masses.

In Bad Bayersoien there was a heavy flood that swept everything away.

The brown, muddy water made its way through apartments, garages, basements and underground car parks.

Gardens were covered with mud.

6 fireworks and around 200 emergency services were deployed in Bad Bayersoien alone.

The streets in town had become raging rivers.

Luckily, as far as we know, there were no injuries.

At the last second, a car driver was rescued from the floods near Saulgrub.

The woman was brought to the railing of the street by means of a ladder.

The flash floods struck a fire engine and three other vehicles.

The water was around 5 meters high on the B23 Saulgrub bypass.

Rescue divers searched the area during the night.

The federal highway 23 near Saulgrub will remain closed today, Friday, May 6th, due to the flooded tunnel.
